I did a half-arsed spring clean of my room. I definitely draw the line at half a centimetre of dust (kidding!). No but it I made a little discovery of cactus leaves that had fallen off onto the window sill which had been growing in the air, with roots and all. They're back in the pot now.
I have to go to Coles and spend money on food. I'd buy some frozen dinners but there's no room in the freezer :-(

It's time for some creative writing.

Um. Jessica stepped off the plane in Paris in the middle of a summer night. She had heard mixed reviews of the city - it was beautiful, romantic and cultured, but it was also dirty and the people were rude... Her American student friend Sam was waiting for her at Arrivals, and boy was she relieved to be escorted somewhere comfy to sleep. Jessica reminisced the days at the language centre in China. She and Sam and had made a connection of sorts - another American from her school in the US disliked her intensely, and took every chance to ridicule her amongst the social circle that had formed among the students from English speaking countries. Sam was in Jessica's class, and Jessica for a time and was often swayed to the view of that American, but they stayed friends. The day before Sam left, she confided something quite serious to her. Jessica gained a new understanding of her 'sometimes' friend, and they became good friends from then on.

So here she was finally in Paris ready to try the pains au chocolate and the croissants. She had learnt a bit of French in school but Sam had mastered the language long ago, having lived there on exchange.

It was while downing a cappucino that Jessica decided to talk about what happened in China. "Sam, did you know what happened in Beijing, with Candace bagging you out all the time? Did you know why noone talked to you?"
"I was ostracised, I know, but I never depended on the others for a life," Sam replied.
It was true, Sam was never interested in going out at night on the weekends. She wanted to live like a local.
"I can't even remember what Candace had against you, but she had a huge influence. It influenced me, and I'm sorry."

The time she had noticed a little orange jar of tablets in her desk drawer, and suddenly assumed Sam was crazy. In Paris, 3 years later, she knew that these days, everyone was on something.

OK I'm going to Coles now. I will probably buy one frozen dinner and cook it straight away.
