Why must overseas trips which should be frickin exciting seeing as though they're my reason to live be preceded by so much goddam stress.
I absolutely ABHOR group work at uni. Fucking white males that take over and want everything their way. Yes honey, we would all like it our own way as well. (Especially if you get HDs in individual assignments.) Apparently marketing specialisations always have group work in every subject. I would like to write to the faculty and beg them to let me do my own work. I'm sure that they'd argue the old excuse that it's good for team work skills. And also I guess in the real world in marketing you can't have everything your way either. Next semester I have decided to choose my group very, very carefully. It is going to be all-female and small so that there aren't ideas flying around everywhere that can't be put together and white chauvinist male arseholes who ignore you.
Next semester I'll be doing International Marketing in Asia, and Marketing Communications and Promotions. The Asia one will hopefully provide some insight into what my company can do because at the moment the Taiwanese and Koreans refuse to pay our prices even though plenty of them are as wealthy as the Europeans who form 80% of our client base.
I wish I could study PR just for fun. Working in it would of course be hard. I would never be able to do what that guy in
Thankyou for Smoking did for a living - he was able to find excellent arguments for everything.
God I just can't wait till this terrible barrage of group work assignments (a.k.a. my degree) is over. I should sue the uni for emotional trauma after being in one too many nightmare-inducing groups. I think I'd have a case.
I'm hungry.
It's such a beautiful day today and I'm feeling great about everything.
Work is good, 'I'm lovin' it' like I love maccas. Uni work is under control and I'm nearly all set to jet off to Taipei and Seoul on Tuesday. Hope I can bring lotsa students to the school...
See ya
Liz
Hi yo how y'all doing it's DJ Liz here in 'da' hood. Summer Hill dat is. Yo.
Tonight I opted out of outings to stay home, do some grocery shopping (on a Friday night - yay) and hang out in my bachelorette pad doing nothing except checking facebook and drinking my McGuigan 2 for $16. Kuba would love it right now. Me, a bed, the net, and two bottles of red (mostly for him). He would have liked the pizza I had for dinner too with Rose, Marcin, and her parents. Rose got her university medal today. Congratulations to Rosa! You rock.
Heading off soon to Taipei and Seoul... shivers, must buy a new suit.
Freaky guy followed me around Franklins. Either I'm going mad (no surprises there) or there exists freaky guys in my new hood. Summer Hill, dat is. Yo.
Ok so it's about time I started writing my best-selling novel. Ok so here goes...
'Twas a dark and stormy night. A young chain smoking lone-drinking 23 year old writes about herself in the third person at her computer with a small tv next to her showing the images of a documentary on some world war or another. She looked out the window and discovered the weather was in fact clear and dry but nevertheless continued with her dramatic writing techniques in order to engage her audience.
Her first 'love' had sent her a message on the phenomenon known as Facebook. Not only was it a message to say hi, but also included the words 'I miss you'. She wrote back and eagerly awaited a reply despite promising herself that when they inevitably got in touch again, she would tell him he was an arsehole. She recently got in touch with the third member of the year-11 triumvirate, Jordan, and was experiencing a mixture of feelings. What if she was living in the 80s or 90s when Facebook had never existed? Passionate but short-lived friendships would have been written off and forgotten. Old loves would have been released and dispersed like ashes into the wind, never to be seen again. Now that Facebook is here, we will never escape the people we have known, for better or for worse. Knowing John gave her life, then ruined it. It was such a long time ago, and the feelings have almost disappeared. But she couldn't control the curiosity that grew inside her after hearing from him. Who was he now? Was he still an arsehole? She still thought he must be, but would drop everything to have that 'catch-up'.
Um yeah stayed tuned for chapter 2
Dear god,
It's 3 hours past my bedtime but I don't care, because I've just actually had a good time. Drinking as part of my job has proved pleasurable and talking with my beloved Korean agent has proved wonderful.
It all started when.. hmm where do I start. When my Korean agent walked into my school and mistook me for an office girl and completely ignored me. Then I kind of reminded him that I was the one coming to Korea and then it all changed. i.e. new handshakes etc. I then discovered that he was hot and sexy, but it wasn't until our appointment at the agent workshop at 9.40am that I discovered that I had a complete crush on him. I spent all day (from 9 to 6) talking to uninterested agents (in twenty minute intervals back to back) about our school, and at the end all I wanted to do was go home. But alas, there was still the "dinner and dance" at the Dockside in Darling Harbour, two hours later at 8pm, that my boss had previously "suggested" that I go to. I.e. go to it because it was my job. Ah, shite. I didn't know anyone at the convention and hadbasically spent the whole day humiliating myself going up to complete stangers and introducing myself then rehearsing my spiel about my school. So obviously I was completely averse to going to this dinner. But of course I went, and spoke to Cute Korean Agent a million times, and it turns out he knows more about my company than I do. Why he's spending hours raving on about it to me, I don't know, but all I do know is that I'm meeting him in Seoul and I still think he's wonderful. Dude, I had made a vow never to start dancing, but alas, me and CKA actually went up to the dance floor for the first time together. It made a good story; whenever I spoke to another person while outside having a choof, I amazed them with my story of exactly how I had vowed not to dance, but ending up dancing anyway (to 80s classics, mind you.) I even danced with this French agent who rejected one of my appointment requests because I was the competition. So, the moral of the story is, no matter how utterly wanky and stuck up industry networking events are in the beginning, everybody forgets about business once the first person hits the dance floor. I like it; I like it alot. In fact, that's when I finally started actually relating to people and having genuine conversations, rather than comparing company accolades.
THUMBS UP TO INDUSTRY EVENTS!
I could get used to free booze; in fact I already have.
Oh shit, gotta go to bed. Waking up in 5 hours.
Amen.
I just had free booze at the Hilton and therefore feel that I have reached a milestone in my life. Yay. Oh my god I'm a fraud!
P.S. Korean agent is soooo nice and soooo handsome. Wow.
I'm moving in to my own studio on Saturday.
Living alone. Thoughts. Well, I may get so bored and lonely that after my six month lease I may re-emerge from my studio a psychological case to rival the Fritzls.
Or, I may spend the hours alone writing my novel (I'm 4 years behind now - Jane Austen was 20 when she wrote P & P, as mentioned previously in my blog, a post written when I turned 20, in fact... my how time has passed.)
I may take up painting...? I had a one hit wonder a few years ago, and may well do it again. And at least I can make an absolute mess without suffering the verbal abuse of uptight byatches.
I may be so desperate for company that I pick up a new boyfriend at the allegedly seedy Summer Hill pub. I will then have a male of the species to bring home and keep me sane if not amused.
Thoughts on Summer Hill. Up and coming 'trendy' suburb apparently. I can say stick it to my old Newtown friends, for Newtown will be so 'passe' by Saturday, and I will in fact become ubercool for living in the New Newtown. I mean, they already have at least two good cafes including one that serves Campos coffee. Now all they need to really turn me on is a massive Vinnies, and a few expensive funky clothing stores that have sales often enough for me to benefit. Done!
Yours with provisional sanity,
Lizwa
