New Discovery!
You can buy breakfast for $4 inside MLC Centre food court. That's half the price of lunch. So, my new plan is to have breakfast and skip lunch, instead of the other way round. It's a win-win situation!
Our topics for the oral presentation for class have been posted. I'm going to talk about intercultural communication and emotional intelligence. Another interesting topic was Persuasive Communcation and the Ethics of Truth - that would be easy after watching Thankyou For Smoking, which by the way was a really good movie.
I went clothes shopping yesterday and got depressed about my weight, and remembered why I didn't like to go clothes shopping, apart from the opporunity to save cash.
Hmmm what else. I have started at the interior design firm in the city. Menial crap but hey at least there are no morons working here. The girl who is going on holidays was really nice and is off to Europe for two weeks.
Reference Time - Yaaaaaaay!
So here's what the movers and shakers of UNSW think of Yours' Truly:
I a) am a natural leader (that's a new one! perfect for my 'CEO' plans)
b) have a 'sharp but gentle' sense of humour
I'm sexing the natural leader part. Really sexing it.
My plans to have enough for a plane ticket by November seem to be happening despite recent setbacks. Once I'm in Seoul (if it happens of course) is another story - I won't be having too many weekends away on $250/week (that's the allowance). But alas, I am once again ahead of myself. Calm down...
Saw the teacher about our group assignment for ethics today. She said we should be panicking coz we haven't done anything. And I didn't understand anything she said about the question. Which was bad, because I was there on behalf of the rest of my group who couldn't make it and reporting back to them was embarrassing.
I'm reaching dangerous levels of happiness and contentment here. Fucking hormones, tricking me into believing I'm happy!
Love,

Got some of my application ready for the Korea internship. I feel unusually confident about getting it, for some reason. There are ten places, I have an Asian Studies degree from Usyd, and it's run by the Asia-Pacific Research centre at Sydney Uni. I just feel like it's a sure bet. But I'll try not to speak too soon.
It costs $25 to get an academic transcript from UNSW so I wrote to the internship people telling them so, and that there are other ways I can prove I'm at UNSW. This is my first semester at UNSW so there wouldn't be any results to look at anyway. That's what the academic reference is for...
Now will look up tourism info on S. Korea (without getting my hopes up of course) If you get it, they arrange homestay accommodation. Wicked!
One of my sisters is a legal secretary. Soon at her work they might have to start clocking on and off everyday because of new Workchoices laws or something. But it's not everyone, just the 'blue collar' workers, while the lawyers won't have to. Obviously I have to rethink my definition of blue collar, because I always assumed secretaries for some reason were white collar. I was wrong then.
Now, I've never been interested in politics, but I'm starting to actually care. I don't mind whether the liberals or labor are in power, as long as they take turns running the country so that there's a nice balance. For example, if the liberals start making insipid moves towards the privatisation of tertiary education, four years later, labour can come back in and turn it around or at least slow it down for a while. And making such a distinction between lawyers and their secretaries is just not on, I work in admin and I already know how much it sucks to think that you could easily be doing the job of the person you're doing menial tasks for, and to further such a distinction is totally against everything I was raised to believe in. Hence the begging of the question:
What is happening to this country? Even I, who has never payed attention, am starting to 'get' it.
Speaking of my sister, she has applied for a two year stint in a law firm in the Cayman islands. I am totally excited for her, because she hasn't travelled in ages and has been wanting to do it but has never saved up the cash. She's got an interview with the HR manager on Wednesday.
Yawny yawn yawn.
Maybe my eyes are tired of looking at a screen all day. When I got home from work yesterday I spent three hours watching Youtube videos. By the way, it is SO OBVIOUS that Lonelygirl15 was just acting. Anyone who got duped was a BLOODY RETARD.
No msn on this computer.
Blog Abuse
Today has been particularly boring. No politicians walking around, no visitor's passes, no excitement. I have been trying to research Krispy Kreme for one of my group assignments but man I'm not finding anything relevant and dude I'm so over it right now. Hi man and dude, thanks for reading my blog.
Tonight I'm stuffing my face at Rose's (aka having dinner at) and tomorrow having lunch with sister Karina.
I'm so sleepy.

Claire reckons I shouldn't go to Korea. It's only for two months though so how much harm can it do. She reckons I should get an internship in Taiwan. That would be nice but how do you organise a visa when you don't have skills and experience? Hmmm....
One and a half hours to gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Today I'm at an architectural firm in Surry Hills. Smells like jasmine.
Next week I'm starting at an interior design firm on Pitt St.
I ended up eating tomato soup for dinner yesterday. I discovered an exceptional collection of canned soup in my cupboard and forced myself to make it through the process of heating it up.
Speaking of the word "exceptional", I updated my resume and sent it back to my new agency, because I got knocked back from a temp reception assignment with the Human Rights Commission. A few minor changes: I added an "Objective" section. And this is what I wrote:
To join a team that concerns itself with the pursuit of excellence, in which my excpetional attention to detail, skills, and cultural sensitivity will play a definitive role. Now how's that for wanky? "Definitive"? Basically I was trying to say that I want to be placed somewhere where the quality of my work will be appreciated and rewarded, and despite the fact that I'm now officially a post-grad student, I'm happy to temp because being part of a team is more important... The beginning of an illustrious career in copywriting?
There was a guy in the office today who I discovered is a year younger than me. Felt old and useless suddenly, like I just haven't been trying hard enough to get a proper job/I studied the wrong thing/I went to the wrong school/I'm not well-connected etc. I think he was an intern. Anyway, I'm going somewhere else tomorrow so that was the end of my stint in parliament house. It was nice though. At the end of the day we all had a glass of wine in the Minister's office and watched the news.
I'm hungry. I feel like... hmmm... dumplings? No I had those the other night. Maccas? No, not filling enough. KFC? Too filling. Thai? Over it. Indian? Hmmm, I could always do with some Indian. Cook my own food? Um, you must be kidding. SO over that! There's not enough room in the fridge to put leftovers and it isn't that much cheaper than getting takeaway, if you know where to get it. Man, I'm sick of having to feed myself. Why can't someone just organise it for me? One day I'll have a bunch of servants to do all the shit that I don't want to do myself. And the receptionist will feel 'priveleged' to be working for me.
Enter Eminem with:
"I think you got some issues, Stan, I think you need some counselling, to stop your arse from bouncing off the walls when you get down some..."
I love chuckling to myself. That's what keeps me going in this world. Speaking of chuckling to myself, George my old flatmate from Abercrombie St and I have been exchanging some very raunchy and flirtatious emails that had me giggling to myself on the L74 that I didn't know didn't stop at my stop but instead went all the way into Randwick so I had to walk home... That George still hasn't lost his magic touch.
Drama at #29.
So I was in my room on the net as usual because the novelty still hasn't worn off, and Ale the Italian whom Marissa absolutely hates (pretty much) came over and started talking to Tim who was in the kitchen. Tim had stuff to do so palmed Ale off to me so I came out and had a cup of tea with him and told him about my exciting day of highs and lows. Marissa finished her assignment and joined us despite not liking Ale (at all). I continued ranting about the DRA and my HD and how much of a legend I was. Then Ale announced he was going home and I reminded him to please wash out his mug. Then Marissa chimed in and gave him a huge lecture about how he's no longer a guest in our appartment because he comes over all the time and how he always leaves his mugs for us to clean up etc and I freaked out coz I'm like "shit, where did THIS come from?" coz she was really getting into him. So Ale picked up not only his mug but two of mine aswell as the plate that Marissa was using to leave her orange peels and headed towards the kitchen. Marissa was like, "put that DOWN!" "ALE!" then she banged the coffee table with her fist. Ale left the plate on the dining table, Marissa got up, picked it up off the dining table, and took it into her room without saying anything.
So I had the shits because Marissa was pissed off with me for being too nice to Ale, so I went into my room while Ale proceeded to wash up whatever was around the kitchen.
This morning I got an email from Ale with "farewell" in the subject line, saying he was truly sorry that I left him while he washed up without saying good bye and how he doesn't disrespect our appartment etc. Man, he needs to be having this conversation with Marissa. Anyway as much as I love company, it might be better if he stays away.
You know, I don't think he's that bad of a person, but apparently he wanted to move into #13 but the people in that appartment petitioned the housing officer not to let him move in. How cut would he be if he knew that that's why he didn't get the room? I would never conspire against someone like that even if I did hate their guts, it's just bad form.
I got my assignment back on Pepsi and Coke and China. Another HD. Well, I think we can safely say that performance correlates with enjoyment. I am on a roll - I hope I can keep it up.
Whoo hooo!
I worked in Parliament House today. My supervisor showed me the chamber and I saw all the schoolkids at the back on excursions.
I think I am going to apply for the Korea internship. I'm 22 - it's about time I got some bloody proper work experience. I know just the people to ask for references from... And hey, South Korea would be cool. I can sneak up to the border and antagonise the commies. Just kidding.
I also had an ethical dilemma today. Is it right to do business with a country with a bad human rights record? I've read the torture methods used by the Chinese on the Falun Gong. Maybe I should go to Taiwan instead.
This has caught my eye, and now I am in love. Can't decide what to do with myself.
Just got back from Chinese class where we read about neighbours giving each other dunplings. Got a craving for dumplings and am going down to Kingsford with Pam to satisfy myself.
Got work this morning. The responsible person I am, I set my alarm for 7:30 so that I could get up and call the temping agency ASAP. Five mintues after I got off the phone with them, they called back with a job. Then another woman from the same agency rang me but it was too late- I was already booked. It was reception at the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs. Now, this is why I switched agencies, so I could surround myself with professionals. I really liked the office manager and she came to chat in the afternoon.
OK well going to get dumplings now.
Imagining How Good it Would Feel to Tell the Morons With Whom You Work Where They Can Stick Your Job: The Inside Story
I'm young and by deductive reasoning therefore completely allowed to make impulsive decisions such as QUITTING and telling the DRA (Dodgy Recruitment Agency) exactly why. And yes, I used the word 'moron'.
In a bit of an economic situation now, but can still pay this week's rent.
Now I'm in Tumut where I have made my temporary return as the Chain Smoking, Pillow-fighting-before-bed Aunty.
I forgot to bring my lunch today. This week was supposed to herald my grand entrance into the world of bringing-lunch-every-single-day-and-saving-lots-of-money. I'm also starving and have half an hour till lunch (when I will go and buy crap at Hungry Jacks) which is too long to wait so i have scoffed five Tim Tams.
There is a meeting going on in the meeting room - full of (fat) men as usual. Well, it's the taxi industry so I'll forgive them this time.
Meanwhile I've been getting into the MYOB jive and pondering my future as an accountant or something. If I was serious about accounting, I'm doing the wrong course - there's actually a Master of Professional Accounting which you do when you want to be an accountant. Therefore, the course I'm doing is not going to qualify me for much at all... Hence the urge to forget it and stick to business strategy which would be enjoyable. But being in this assistant accountant position takes me beyond admin. Decisions decisions.
In other news, I'm hungry.
Also, my desk is in a prime positon for blogging - the computer screen is not in anyone's view so I can bitch and moan as much as I want to. Yeah baby.
Speaking about this meeting, Di the CEO's PA has done half the catering herself and man she is GOOD. All for a bunch of (fat) men sitting around talking about taxis. Hee hee.
Can't figure out how to get characters to show. Changed the code to Chinese traditional and still nothing. Even pasted some special HTML into the template. Ah, "Phuket". I'm really annoyed though because I thought it would be an awesome way to practice.
A summary of my weekend so far:
Came home from work, started downloading music (now that I have the net!!), played poker, stayed up talking with flatties (Marissa and I decided we have very different viewpoints on women's issues, that we are into different 'branches' of feminism, and I said 'but hey, branches of the same tree girlfriend, coz we both have cunts!'.. you had to be there), got up in the morning, studied Chinese with Marissa, went grocery shopping, downloaded Bjork's greatest hits, got food, watched the Sound of Music, went to a party in Mulwaree, and that's it. Like a good red wine, the Sound of Music gets better with age. oh, when he says something about the problem with being in love with someone else, looks at her, then kisses her... fuck that's romantic. Dude. I could've died.
I LOVE MY
CUNT...now that I have read half of this book.
I've got the internet at home now. Finally! Weird. Haven't had the internet at home since first year uni.
Got that assignment done on Monday night. Had to skip Chinese class which was a shame. Enrolments for the new semester are coming up. They're not that great and I haven't been studying, but it's better than not investing anything into it at all...
In funnier news, I accidentally left my book 'Cunt' on my desk at work overnight. Dianne, the office manager, who is probably around sixty and quite proper, took the liberty of covering it in brown paper like a school book.
In even funnier news, I GOT AN HD FOR MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT!!! When the teacher handed it back to me she said 'Well done' and I freaked out and thought NO WAY! So yeah, it looks like I ROCK!!! I got 13.2/15 which is the same as an 88. The LAST thing I was expecting. I was sitting in class fantasising about getting a good mark but then thought no I better expect the worst. And then it happened! I'm smart I'm smart I'm smart I'm smart.
Also this job is getting bearable just because I'm getting used to it, and yesterday Laila the accountant let me install MYOB into my computer so that I can help her do the accounting... I'll put that on my resume, thankyou very much!
In the library.
Noon
On a SUNDAY
When it's HOT OUTSIDE
And I'm going to the beach later
I brought my swimmers with me
So that we can go straight there when Rose picks me up
But for now,
It's PROCRASTINATION BY BLOGGING
And MORE PROCRASTINATION
Who would have thought
An 800-word report
Could be so INTIMIDATING
So I am left to write a poem
That DOESN'T RHYME
Text
Interspersed
With words in CAPITAL LETTERS
The air-con in here sucks
But I'm glad none the less
That I managed
To drag myself here
(thru the heat for twenty minutes)
PAT ON THE BACK
Nothing's open
I'm hungry now and haven't eaten anything all day
See what I'm putting myself thru?
Fuck this.
Ok here's the plan.
1)Print out articles.
2)Underline useful shit.
3)Type up 800 words of nonsense by the time Rose calls.
4)Get my 10kg-heavier-than-3-years-ago-arse off to Coogee beach.
First of all, I am sick of going to parties where I don't know anyone. Let's face it, I'm fucking shy, and this is something that hasn't changed and probably never will. So fuck this, no wonder people become hermits. I feel like giving up on people all together.
La di da di da oh now I need to go to the dunny which is one floor down.
Also I discovered that there is a computer lab exclusively for post-grad students. That's me! A 'post-grad' student... among people that studied Economics and Finance in their undergrad and already work for large corporations... Who the hell do I think
I am studying this degree JUST TO GET MY FOOT IN THE FUCKING DOOR? And even then I'll still be left to turn up at The Establishment and recite my relatively uneventful resume off to anyone wearing a suit, prefereably a man, because a little flirting goes a long way. Use it, sister!
I came home on Friday after work feeling like I was about to have a nervous breakdown, even though I don't even know what a nervous breakdown IS! Well I guess when you're having one you just instinctively know that that is the name it goes by. So I rang Kate and she said to call whenever I need to and that is just great. I love Kate, she is like a suprise birthday party that will last for the rest of my life.
Ok must
at least print out those stupid articles about Coke and Pepsi and the Chinese market.
Love
Lizwa
The Utter Joy of Data Entry and Learning from the Consummate ProfessionalsThe lady who's job I'm taking over is so bad at explaining things it's as if she's slow and almost as if she doesn't understand what she's doing herself. I asked her that I needed to understand 'the bigger picture' of what I was doing and she didn't get what I meant, which was that I need to understand the purpose of what I'm supposed to do which will logically facilitate my ultimate understanding of how to do it. When she's showing me what to do, I have no idea what she's talking about and she even starts talking to herself and writing notes to herself and then afterwards says 'You don't understand, do you' and then leaves me to do go on with it. This is what I mean by moron. I'm outa here quicksnap. Just gotta get this 800 word assignment done and then I can beg the non-dodgy recruitment agencies to give me temping work. In the meantime I will write more inane emails to everyone I know or used to know 3-5 years ago (basically anyone on my contact list).
